Day 19: San Luis Obispo - Ventura

Getting closer to Los Angeles meant warmer weather, nicer houses and more cabrio's on the road.
We drove up to Santa Barbara and passed Vandenberg air force base on the way. Close to this air force base is a little town called Lompoc. It is just an ordinary town, but we wondered about the many bank buildings we saw. Guess the pilots are earning more money than they can spend.

When we entered Santa Barbara we spotted several Porches and other expensive cars. We decided to check the place out and we drove up to the beach. It all looked very exotic and expensive. The houses were quite big and we thought about what big stars would live here.
I was a bit sorry we wouldn't have much time to stay here and I wished I had chosen to overnight here, instead of in San Luis Obispo.

We spotted a Mac Donald's on our way out of Santa Barbara and we decided to go for a delicious sundae ice-cream again. It was getting warmer and warmer and for one of the first times we had to use the air-conditioning.

In a quick 35 miles we drove to Ventura, our last stop before Los Angeles. We booked a room in the Holiday Inn and when we entered the city we spotted the hotel right away.
The hotel looked quite nice and we got upstairs to check out our room. The room was not that big, but looked very nice. We all wanted to go to the balcony to check out the view and when Corine opened the curtains I thought she opened the door and I wanted to get to the balcony..............BANG.............with a big bang I hit the door with my head and fell back on the bed.
I was a little dizzy, but I still was in for a joke and I played dead on the bed. In such a situation you learn to know people, cause my own wife didn't bother and it was my sister Corine who came to rescue me. At that point I couldn't stay serious and I started laughing. Corine was mad at me for a few minutes and I can't blame her.

View from our room in the Holiday Inn

The weather was really nice and we decided to sunbathe a little. When we were down at the pool the wind was a bit cold and we decided not to swim. After a while we walked to the beachside and spotted dozens of squirrels. Yes, really! It was strange to see, at first I had thought they were rats!

City of Ventura

Right before dinner we took a walk to see if there were any restaurants nearby. The main street looked quite nice and I thought the City hall looked really great.
There were not many restaurants so we decided to check the phonebook for a Sizzler restaurant. There was a Sizzler restaurant, and it was located in the main street, but at the other side of town.
The restaurant was a bit old and not nearly as good as the ones we had dinner at, in Orlando (Florida) last year.

After dinner we watched a movie called Volcano. I liked the movie, although I don't think it's possible for a Volcano to develop in downtown LA, and it definitely won't stop me going to LA tomorrow.
