Day 20: Ventura - Los Angeles

Ventura is located about 60 miles from Los Angeles, so our last driving day would not be that long. In a few minutes we were on highway 101, but when we got close to Los Angeles it became very busy and we decided to leave highway 101 and drive through the Santa Monica Mountains to the coast.  We had great views and enjoyed the sight of the big houses we saw.

When we entered Santa Monica we turned left on Sunset Blvd that should take us right into Beverly Hills. We all wondered about how long Sunset Blvd really is, but we were also a bit disappointed cause there wasn't much to see until we reached Beverly Hills.

Bel Air entrance, Beverly Hills

At one point we reached Bel Air and we decided to check it out. We saw some big houses, but not as big as we thought there would be. The big houses are behind big fences and can not be viewed from the roadside, so unlucky us...we didn't spot any famous people. Next time I'll buy a map of Beverly Hills. In Universal Studios you can buy one with the addresses of lots stars on it.

We tried to locate the famous Rodeo drive and found it in no time. We saw famous and very expensive shops, but we didn't feel like shopping there.  It looked quite fancy but not very special to us so we decided to move on.

We drove further and when we got closer to Hollywood Blvd we decided to check out the world famous Hollywood sign on the hills. Hollywood Blvd isn't something special really. The name is famous and that's it. After a while driving we gave up and parked at a Mac Donald's to buy a Sundae ice cream. While Eric and I waited I turned and saw..........the Hollywood sign. On the photo below you can see it....right in the middle.

Sunset Blvd

We tried to get closer to the sign, cause sometimes in movies we see people near the sign, but we weren't very lucky.
Cause we were close to Universal Studios we decided to locate it for our visit tomorrow. After we found it was time to find the hotel. After driving almost an hour we wondered about the big distance between Hollywood and the airport.

I booked a room in the Furama hotel near the airport because of the low price and the location.
The hotel looked quite nice, but it was the first time we had to wait to get into our room. The hotel had a swimming pool and we decided to have a swim. There was a nice hot tub and Linda and I really enjoyed relaxing in it.

Downtown Los Angeles

I was a bit disappointed about Beverly Hills and Hollywood. I always thought it had to be something special, but maybe we didn't try hard enough to find the right spots. I know that we missed some nice things today, but we were all so tired. Three weeks traveling is harder than you might think and it gets harder and harder to get excited if you have seen things like the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Las Vegas.
